ABOUT US
The South Shore Steelheads  is an elite travel baseball program made up of players from Northwest Indiana aka  "The South Shore" aka "The Region". The Steelheads (12u, 13u and 14u) compete in various tournaments throughout the Midwest as well as the Northern Illinois Metro League. Our goal is to provide our players with a great baseball experience that encourages teamwork, sportsmanship and the love of the game. We will strive to be recognized as one of the best baseball programs in the country.
 
BREAKING NEWS
12u STEELHEADS CAPTURE BPA INDEPENDENCE DAY CHAMPIONSHIP:   The 12U Steelheads won the 2012 Independence Day Festival tournament July 2nd at Hidden Lake Park. The Steelheads went undefeated in pool play and won the Championship game vs. The LaPorte Outlaws 6-1.
 
 
 
14u STEELHEADS CRUISE THROUGH MUNCIE: The 14u Steelheads took first place in the Muncie Summer Heat Tournament during the weekend of June 8th - 10th, 2012. The Steelheads won all 5 of its games to capture the first place trophy. Strong pitching and timely hitting powered the Heads to victory in the tournament that featured teams from all over Indiana.
 
 
MORANDINI JOINS STEELHEADS COACHING STAFF: Former major leaguer Mickey Morandini has joined the Steelhead coaching staff and will work with the team through winter and spring practice. Morandini played with the Phillies and Cubs and now serves as a special consultant to the Phillies and manages their Single-A affiliate, the Lakewood BlueClaws. "Having a guy with this type of experience working with our players and coaches is invaluable," said John Batistatos, Manager of the 15u Steelheads. "I coached with Mickey for 5 years and know he will be a tremendous asset to our organization," Batistatos added. Watch the Morandini video at the bottom of this page. 
 
 
   

BREAKING NEWS

14u STEELHEADS CAPTURE 2013 KARSTENS TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP:  The 14U Steelheads won the 2013 Karstens Umpire Appreciation tournament on May 12th at Patriot Park in Michigan City.  The Steelheads went undefeated in pool play and won the championship game 5-0. 

 

 

 

"REPEAT" - STEELHEADS WIN 2012 WORLD SERIES:  After taking Nationals, The South Shore Steelheads stormed through Bourbonnais and won the 2012 Baseball Players Association World Series.  The Steelheads came out of pool play as the #1 seed and then won 4 single elimination bracket games to finish 6-0 and bring home the title.  The Steelheads finished the season 53-8.  The Steelheads 2 year record is 92-17.

 

 

 

14u STEELHEADS WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: The 14u Steelheads took first place in the 2012 Pastime National Championship Tournament in Lexington, KY. 32 Teams competed in the event. The Steelheads went 7-0 defeating Motor City in the championship game.

 

 

14u STEELHEADS BRING HOME TROPHY:  The 14u Steelheads took first place in the May Slamfest Tournament held at Ho Chunk Park during the weekend of May 18th - 20th, 2012.  The Steelheads came out of pool play as the number one seed and finished the tournament in first place.

ZANOLLA TO HEAD PLAYER DEVELOPMENT: Former professional baseball player and college standout Dan Zanolla will be coordinating player development for the Steelheads. Zanolla played college baseball at Indiana and Purdue then played in the Padres and Marlins organization. Zanolla will be bringing techniques, drills and education that was utilized at the college and professional levels. "Z brings a wealth of knowledge to the Steelheads and will take us to the next level," said John Batistatos, Manager of the 15u Steelheads. "I played with Z and know his capabilites so we jumped on the opportunity to have him work with all our players."

  
 
 
LARRY BIGBIE JOINS STEELHEADS COACHING STAFF: Former major leaguer Larry Bigbie has joined the Steelhead coaching staff and will serve as a special consultant instructing players and coaches on hitting, fielding and fundamentals.  Larry played for the Orioles, Cardinals and Rockies and now works as a professional hitting instructor.
